Overcoming cultural barriers that may prohibit adult education opportunities is becoming more important every day as our country navigates through divisive rhetoric and media coverage. There is a conversation on LINCS Community, through the Advancing Equity group, where people are discussing the possible cultural barriers for students to access Career Technical Education, Adult Education, and Community College.
The U.S. Department of Education Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) Division of Academic and Technical Education has a page of National Initiatives for Advancing Equity in CTE. They will be creating an Advancing Equity in CTE toolkit that will help policymakers, academic staff, school administrators and counselors, parents, and equity coordinators introduce issues of equity.
The toolkit will be online on OCTAE’s Perkins Collaborative Resource Network (PCRN). The National Initiatives on this site contain information on Career Pathways and CTE as well as Equity and Technology.
